A post edited from the replies I gave to 3 artists who suffered from DA community:
sign...
I have said this... I will say it again. To famous artists, infamous artists, unfamous artists.....
My advice is... the WHOLE WORLD will be like DA... whether internet or not... if your art is recongized, people would try to benefit from it, rip it, destroy it, flame it. The history itself has said it again and again.
On DA, it's a community that is well set up, not perfect, but it's well done compare to alot of places:
As well as art thief, there are people who look out for you as well... as well as there are flamers, there are people who truely support you, as well as people of jealousy, there are people who appreciate.
You will find out, everywhere it's about the same... DA is only a glimsp at how the world is... it's best you deal with those things with a ready heart, and train yourself to be able to handle "People" and view the handling of these issues as a "capacity" and "skill" instead of just "crap" that you have to "deal with."
If dealing with people is crap, you WILL find crap everywhere.... But I do understand the over-rating, the trouble of praises and how it may make you feel depressed and feel that your art has been treated lightly.
I did feel the same before....
I also felt the feeling of not being appreciated by what I do sometimes at some point.
+Just remeber there are still people everywhere, that would appreciate and look at your art longer than most people.
+For those who are developing, there are people who would encourage you occasionally to keep on going.
+For those who hasn't recieved any, there are always those who are willing to help if you asked for a helping hand.
They maybe hard to find.... but they are there....as long as you learn how to dig the gold in those wasted soil, you will find much joy in handling fame and people.
How DA is a popularity contest, this is life. Whether you go to work for big companies, on DA, submit work to gallery, go to shop and buy clothes....(trust me there are worst things than what you see on DA)
Popularity contest IS THERE, BRAND is there~ Pointless things, meaningful things are THERE.
You are the one who has to pick, and how you see the whole thing changes your own happiness.
Surely it's not pleasent to be rated and ranked, whether you are high on the rank or low on the rank. I don't enjoy ranking, either; but when a society advance and it's not possible to know everyone, ranking and rating happens...
It's important to be content, at this point, and CHOOSE not to let those things bother you, and help others not to be bothered too much by those things by treating them with respect and humanity.
It's upto US to change.
That truly is the thoughts of most of the deviants out there.
This a great. The message is so strong and you have motivated me to comment more positive and help others alot more.
Although, I have to be allowed to critique - a few spellings mistakes here and there...
I think people just have to accept that not everyone will like one's work. Yes... it's a hard thing to do. I don't think I can fully do this without getting slightly annoyed but i try not to think of it. There will be flames, there will be critiques that make no sense. There will be great people and bad people everywhere and the distinction is not all black and white, regardless of where you go.
I think I've learned a lot these past years with martial arts and DA and everything that is going around me. You have to be stronger mentally to take on the real problems and face them head on. If you sulk and get depressed because of WORDS, then you're already letting them defeat you. You have to be stronger than that to make it in this world whatever it may be. You can't let yourself be the victim because you're better than that.
I was really weak in this aspect sevral years ago and still, even now... I think I made slight improvement because of some role models but I don't think I'm quite there yet. Sometimes things do get to me and I'm hoping that I will eventually develop into someone that doesn't need to feel this way at all.
I really enjoy your journals/prose articles. It's good that you write about these things.
I think it is very important to recognise that the world is also full of events that cannot quite be epitomised in "DA terms" like the wars and famine ecetera.
I also think that having a "half full glass" attitude is a very positive thing and that it is not up to just the US but also people as a global society to change themselves. It is as Ghandi said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world..."
