I like having real books in my hands, but as I have young children, I'm very careful of what I own. I'd rather read first, then buy if I really like it or wanted to support the author.
However, if I'm going to read something over and over and over and over, then I'll also cough up the money for it. :D

actually wouldn't mind putting stories out there for free and usually it is normal for incentive stuff to be shoved in the printed copies.

check out [link] - need tweaks but I do stand by it.

yes i read this before. :) With free stuff though, it's hard to get 1000 true fans who would really spend on this. :P You almost need 400k people to see your work before you may get that 1000 true fans. I currently have about 40-50 fans who supports me regularly, and have about 2000-3000 regular readers. So if you do the math, its .025%... and I still have to find another job to keep myself going, it's pretty depressing. ^^b

It's supposed to be 20% that should be true fans (that is, if you reach a large niche of people) but I would at the most consider 10%. However, it is true. Major advertising in all sorts of ways you would think as well as other things like updating often for a webcomic or more online incentives. Hmm...I know there must be more suggestions I could think of.

truth is... anything online is NOT that percentage, if i have that high i would be living on it.
It's a lot lower than one would hope for.
Unless I have a publisher backing or some kind of venture capital backing me to get my products into places that's easily accessible... it's not likely i will be getting high enough reward from my fan base.

Well, let me know if you find something that can help.
I already considered other options but it will take sometime to prepare.

I really wouldn't quite dismiss it though considering that particular graph has been around in the business world for quite sometime. Regardless, I really think it is down to advertising and nipping issues in the bud if there is any.

However, I do think there needs to be some sort of middle man not for finances but something that will help artists like comic artists, musicians, etc. to get around easier. Today's advertising world puts things into viewers faces. In some degree, I don't want it that but at least need that sort of power without a major middle man.

i agree. o.o marketing and production are just completely two different fields, its hard for a single person to do both, you trade your time for one or the other.

I don't think you have to always trade it but it is a good idea to put some money down to advertising companies in the meantime. Although I do think there needs to be a new way of advertising but till then, use what we have.

I lean heavily towards print. I like feel of a book in my hand. I only settle for digital copies if there are no means of acquiring a hard copy.
